Water Intake: Top 3 Tips to Stay Hydrated

Water intake can be difficult to maintain.

Keeping up with water intake is important especially during the summer months. Not consuming enough water puts your health at risk.

The age-old goal for water intake was eight glasses per day. We now know that our body requires a more personalized number based on our own body make-up. Therefore, a more accurate goal is to aim for half of your body weight in ounces of water per day. For example, if you weigh 150 pounds, your minimum water intake should be 75 ounces per day.

Keeping up with water intake might not seem like a challenge until you actually try to tackle it. I find the following three tips to be the easiest to help maintain water intake.

So, grab a fun, new container or bring an old favorite back to life. Carry it with you so it is always top of mind.

Top 3 Tips to stay hydrated this summer

1. Add some flavor. Peeled fruit such as, strawberries, pineapple, or melons will also add some sweetness. Or crisp veggies such as cucumbers add a wonderful freshness to water.

2. Add electrolytes and minerals. This is a great tip because it keeps the body balanced, therefore, your body maintains better water retention and overall better hydration.

3. Add water-rich foods into your diet. This tip is not only easy but also tasty. Some of the best water-rich foods include cucumber, broccoli, celery, lettuce, spinach, brussels sprouts, carrots, tomatoes, cauliflower, radishes, peppers, peaches, cantaloupe, watermelon, apples, oranges, strawberries, and pears.

It can be challenging to stay on top of staying hydrated, especially when you start to pay attention to it. But with a bit of planning and creativity, you will soon notice that your body is genuinely thanking you for the extra care.
